[노스웨스트미주리주립대학교]Greek Life honors outstanding individuals, chapters for 2017-18/Northwest Missouri State University

Northwest Missouri State University Greek Life organizations gathered Thursday to celebrate the dedication of their members and chapter achievements throughout the academic year during their inaugural Greek Gala.

Sigma Kappa’s Alison Hanner, a senior organizational communication and public relations major from Guthrie Center, Iowa, received the Julie Victor Moore Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes a member of the Greek community who has exemplified its values of leadership, scholarship, service and integrity throughout their tenure. Members are nominated by their peers, the award is considered the highest honor an undergraduate Greek student can receive.

Sigma Kappa’s AshLee Wetig, a senior elementary education and special education-cross categorical major from Omaha, Nebraska, was named the Outstanding Greek Woman of the Year, and Sigma Tau Gamma’s Jacob Liles, a senior mathematics major from Maryville, was named the Outstanding Man. The award recognizes members who are dedicated and committed to bettering Greek Life on the Northwest campus and are active members in their chapters, councils and other Greek Life functions. 

Alpha Sigma Alpha’s Jordan Poore, a senior accounting and corporate finance major from Grimes, Iowa, was named Outstanding Sorority President, and Sigma Phi Epsilon’s Sam Spencer, a senior criminology major from Kansas City, Missouri, was named Outstanding Fraternity President. The awards are given to chapter presidents who show continuous commitment to furthering the ideals of Greek Life by successfully leading their organizations and serving as a role model to all members of the Greek Community. Additionally, Mindy Dilley received the Outstanding Advisor Award for her work with Sigma Kappa.

For the first time, Greek Life honored the chapter that recorded the most service hours during the academic year with its Overall Service Award. The recognition went to the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, which logged 1,664 hours. Greek Life noted Northwest students submitted 15,632 service hours during the year, and the Greek community accounted for about 40 percent of those hours through fundraisers, food and clothing collections, and other efforts to support a variety of philanthropies.

Alpha Delta Pi’s Lisa Lopez received the Panhellenic Legacy Award, which recognizes an individual in the Panhellenic community that unites Northwest sororities. The award recipient is honored for contributions to the advancement and betterment of the Greek community, while succeeding academically, earning respect throughout the campus and embodying Greek Life values.

Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity earned the Gary Gaetti Intramural Supremacy Award by accumulating the most points during intramural competition throughout the academic year.

Greek organizations have had a presence on the Northwest campus since 1927, and the University’s chapters range in size from 25 members to 126 members under the leadership of students of all class standings.

Currently, Northwest recognizes 16 nationally supported Greek organizations, which are annually honored for their academic, philanthropic and social programs. In addition to helping students develop long-lasting friendships and leadership skills, Northwest Greek chapters help students develop skills to become outstanding community and civic leaders.
