The St. Cloud State University baseball team will serve as the volunteer organization at the upcoming Miracle League of Central Minnesota baseball games on Tuesday, Sept. 19.  The event will take place at the Miracle League field, which is located at Whitney Park in St. Cloud, Minn. and the start time is slated for 5:30 p.m.

The Miracle Field is a little league baseball field that is designed to be used by children with disabilities. The Miracle Field allows these athletes the opportunity to play ball by removing the barriers of traditional fields. The entire field surface is made out of a rubber surface that cushions falls and prevents injury. The field surface is completely flat without barriers, allowing people using walkers, wheelchairs or with mobility challenges a barrier free playing surface. The entrances, exits, and dugouts are designed to be wider to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers.

The construction of our Miracle Field has allowed regional youth with disabilities the opportunity to have the same experiences as their peers. According to the Minnesota Department of Education the Miracle League of Central Minnesota has the potential to impact nearly 7,000 youth with disabilities in St. Cloud and the surrounding communities.

The Huskies will sign autographs, talk baseball, play catch and offer insight into the game to the league participants.

"We are always happy to help with this type of community outreach," SCSU head coach Pat Dolan said.  "This community provides so much support for our program, so we feel it is important to give back by to to great programs like the Miracle League.  We certainly believe in their motto, which is 'every child deserves a chance to play baseball' and it is a wonderful way to share our passion for the great game of baseball.

The SCSU baseball team posted a 41-18 overall record 2017 that included a 27-11 record in the always rugged NSIC.  This was the sixth time since 2010 that the Huskies have posted 40-plus wins in a season under the leadership of head coach Pat Dolan.  St. Cloud State also qualified for the NCAA Division II Central Region tournament in 2017, which marked the seventh time since 2010 that the Huskies have gained an NCAA tourney bid.  In the final NCBWA Division II national poll of 2017, St. Cloud State was ranked #20 and the Huskies were ranked #3 in the final NCAA DII Central Region poll for 2017.
