Swimming's Pretre Named Assistant Coach at Villanova University/트루먼주립대학교(Truman State University)
After a successful six-year run as the head coach of the Truman State University men's and women's swimming programs, Ed Pretre has accepted an assistant coach position at Villanova University alongside the Wildcats' head coach, Rick Simpson.
"It has been both an honor and privilege to be part of the legacy that is Truman State University Swimming," said Pretre. "I am blessed to have worked with such an outstanding group of student-athletes, alumni and parents and thank everyone for your support over the years. I am fortunate to have had the leadership from Jerry Wollmering, Michael Bazemore, Linda Anderson, and the entire athletic department during my tenure at Truman. They believed in my vision for Truman Swimming and will continue to show the team their support as they begin the search process for my replacement."
Pretre was named Coach of the Year by the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference (NSISC) in 2012 before picking up the same honor for the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) in 2015 when the women's team upset 10-time National Champion, Drury, for the first GLVC title in school history. During his time leading the Purple and White, Pretre coached 30 All-Americans at the Division II Championships and has had swimmers break 25 school records.
"We are thrilled to have Ed join our staff. Ed replaces Coach Nathan Lavery who made a huge impact on our program," said Simpson. "With his departure, I knew that we wanted to bring in a top-notch replacement. With Ed, we are fortunate to have a coach with extensive experience at all levels. He is a proven stroke coach and technician and a top-notch recruiter. We are thrilled to welcome Ed and his family back to the area and to the Wildcat Swimming Family."
This won't be Pretre's first coaching stint in the Big East Conference as he was an assistant/recruiting coordinator for the women's team at Rutgers University in 2006-07. Pretre specialized with training sprinters, IMers and all stroke groups while helping numerous swimmers score at the Big East Championships. He coached two Big East Champions in Kasey Kesses (100 fly) and Shana Longacre (100 breast). Pretre also coached Shayna Longacre to the NCAA Women's Championshipshere she earned honorable mention All-America honors with a 15th-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, and helped her make the US National team in 2007.
